A sobriety counter app with no ads

SteadyChip is a sobriety counter with no ads of any kind. There is no advertising code in the app, so nothing covers your day count, nothing plays before you can see your streak, and you will never be shown a casino, betting, or alcohol ad. The core tracker is free: daily check-in, your streak and personal best, a 35-day history grid, and a savings jar. Pro ($4.99/month or $34.99/year through Apple) adds trend charts and full journal history. You are never paying to remove ads, because there aren't any.

Why ads in a sobriety app are a real problem

Ads are one of the most common complaints in low-star reviews of sobriety counter apps. In September 2026 we read 1,256 one- and two-star App Store reviews across 26 sobriety and drinking apps, and nearly 200 of them were about ads: full-screen videos before the counter loads, banners covering the numbers people opened the app to see, and ads with no way to skip.

Some reviewers described something worse: ads for online casinos, sports betting, and slot-style games inside apps meant for recovery. One person who signed up to track a gambling addiction said the very first pop-up was a casino ad.

How to check a sobriety app for ads before you rely on it

On the App Store listing, scroll to App Privacy. Apps that use your data to track you across other companies' apps and websites list it under “Data Used to Track You.” An empty tracking section is a good sign, although an app can still show ads without tracking.

Then read the most recent one- and two-star reviews and look for the word “ads.” Recent reviews tell you what the app is like today. Several apps only started drawing ad complaints after an update added them.

How SteadyChip handles it

There is no ad code in the SteadyChip iPhone app or the web app. The free version isn't a trial and doesn't expire.

Pro is billed by Apple, so you manage or cancel it in your Apple ID subscription settings like any other subscription. Your check-ins stay on your device unless you turn on sync, and SteadyChip doesn't sell or share your data.

What SteadyChip doesn't do

  • It counts the days you check in. There's no way to enter a sobriety date from months or years ago — you can fill in missed days one at a time, up to 35 days back in the iPhone app (30 on the web).
  • It's built around alcohol: check-ins track sober days and drinks, not other substances or behaviors.
  • There's no community, chat, or sponsor matching.
  • It runs on iPhone and in any web browser. There's no app for other phones yet.

Common questions

What's free and what's Pro?
Free, with no time limit: daily check-in, streak and personal best, a 35-day history grid, one savings goal, the last 30 days of journal entries, and milestone celebrations. Pro adds full journal history, trend charts, a day-of-week breakdown, custom milestones, and multiple savings goals.
Can I use it without downloading anything?
Yes. The same tracker runs in any browser at steadychip.app/app, with no account required.
